Statement of Purpose of the Children’s Advocacy Center

The purpose of the Children’s Advocacy Center is to help abused children by providing a safe and comfortable environment designed to meet their needs for support and protection.  The goal is to improve communities’ response to child abuse and neglect and to minimize trauma to children and families.  This is accomplished through the coordination of:

Law Enforcement      Child Protective Services      Prosecution

Education      Medical      Mental Health      Victims Services

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Lawrence County is a private, non-profit agency affiliated with Jameson Health System and is a full member of the National Children’s Alliance.  Located in a house, the center provides a warm, home-like environment where interview can be conducted and where team members can meet.  Following the initial report and interview, cases are reviewed by a multidisciplinary team to determine the most appropriate disposition.  The team’s goal is to interrupt the cycle of abuse using a multidisciplinary approach with early intervention and coordination of services.
