UPMC/JAMESON
CANCER CENTER HOSTS “SPRING FLING”
TO EDUCATE OUR COMMUNITY & HELP GRANT WISHES FOR CANCER
PATIENTS
New
Castle, PA -
April
9, 2010
UPMC/Jameson Cancer
Center has partnered with New Castle Medical Oncology to host a
“Spring Fling” event to build awareness of the cancer
treatment and support resources available in our community and to
raise funds for Unity: A Journey of Hope, a public non-profit
organization that grants wishes to adults with a life-limiting
illness.
Planning
for the event was launched by the inspiration of Jeannie Wells,
the new Patient Navigator for the UPMC/Jameson Cancer Center. Ms.
Wells leads her patients through the maze that first begins the
day of a cancer diagnosis. She helps her patients to obtain cancer
education, prepare them for treatments, communicate the
community’s support services, identify financial resources,
offer transportation assistance and manage work-related issues
pertaining to attending medical appointments.
“I was
born to do this type of help,” Ms. Wells commented.
“I will be working with the American Cancer Society
promoting their programs to our patients.” She went on to
explain that she will explore new ways to find financial
assistance. “I will
be doing fund-raisers and enlisting aid from Unity: A Journey of
Hope.”
