New Castle , PA – March 12, 2010 - Bradley A. Dennis, M.D., Board Certified in obstetrics and gynecology, will kick-off Jameson Health System’s Tools for Teen Weight Loss Program with a seminar to discuss adolescent obesity.  The presentation by Dr. Dennis will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 22 in the Jameson Hospital South Campus Conference Center .

Dr. Dennis said, “These teens are at significant risk for becoming obese adults, and adolescent obesity predisposes them to a range of medical and psychosocial problems. Teens with obese parents are twice as likely to be obese adults placing themselves at increased risks for heart disease, trouble sleeping, high blood pressure, diabetes and breathing problems.  He went on to say that despite the enormous medical and economic implications of obesity, effective prevention and treatment strategies are lacking.

Jameson’s Tools for Teen Weight Loss Program is for adolescents aged 13 to 17. Teens will learn skills to improve nutrition and exercise habits for a healthier lifestyle.  The program, 5-weeks of interactive classes, will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Jameson Hospital South Campus conference center.  A registered dietitian will teach the teens about eating more healthfully and the teens will be shown exercises/activities to do at home that will be discussed/demonstrated by an exercise physiologist.
