JAMESON CELEBRATES NATIONAL HOSPITAL WEEK AND  NAMES DEDICATED TO EXCELLENCE AND ANNE & WARREN HOYE AWARDS

New Castle , PA June 21, 2010 -- “National Hospital Week is a time to celebrate our employees’ dedication to our patients,” said Douglas Danko, President/CEO of Jameson Health System. “It is our 1,400+ dedicated employees across all functional areas that bring their diverse skills, compassion and work ethic to the task of healing. They make our organization strong.”

On May 13th, Jameson recognized employees celebrating five or more years of service during its annual Employee Service Awards Dinner at the Villa.  This year’s dinner honored 149 employees for their years of service.  Jameson held its first Employee Service Awards dinner in 1966.

The Anne and Warren Hoye Award is given to a Jameson Health System employee who has designed a successful and innovative program to benefit the community.  This year’s recipient was Donna Cochran, director cardiology services. Donna with the assistance of John Masi, patient care manager of CCU , developed a new PICC line insertion program at the North Campus. Donna and her staff developed the protocols needed and trained five nurses on the insertion of PICC lines.  Bard Corporation, a worldwide leader in health care products, has recognized Jameson’s team for their excellence and uses Jameson’s program as a standard for hospitals to develop their own teams.  The PICC team began providing this service in April, 2009 and has inserted 134 PICC lines to-date.

The Dedicated to Excellence Award emphasizes an individual’s outstanding commitment to the Health System’s mission.  This year’s recipient is Shelly Hudson, RN.  Shelly is dedicated to providing the very best care to her patients and their families.  She has endured many personal obstacles on her journey following her passion to become a nurse. Mr. Danko commented, “This individual received numerous nominations from many areas of the hospital.  Her (accidentally revealing the gender of the award recipient) commitment to her level of care is continually mentioned in surveys, cards and by patients, families and visitors. If we could clone her - this would be a perfect world.”  A “Top 10 Reasons Why Shelly Hudson Should be the Dedicated to Excellence Winner” listing was submitted as a nomination. Mr. Danko highlighted some of the top 10 reasons list included the fact that Shelly comes in on her days off to decorate the unit to increase morale. She also comes in on her days off to throw baby showers and birthday parties for her co-workers. She goes to co-workers homes to visit them when they are sick and assists anyone in need. She requests Sunday mornings off and volunteers to work 3-11pm that day so that she can attend church - and then thanks her supervisors and other staff for accommodating her request.  “She is the absolute role model of what every nurse should be when it comes to nursing – bright, compassionate and always smiling.

Jameson Health System offers its congratulations to all Jameson employees for their continued commitment to the Organization and the patients it serves.
