Jameson Golf Classic Twelfth
Anniversary
New Castle, PA - The 12th Anniversary of the
Jameson Classic golf outing held on July 19, 2004 may have started
out with an overcast sky, a downpour of showers and two rain
delays but these conditions could not keep away the 132 golfers
that tried their luck at one of the area’s premier courses.
This year’s event helped send the total funds raised by
the Classic over $1,100,000.
The
New Castle Country Club provided golfers an opportunity to play
and get tips from professional golfers such as Lori West, Jackie
Nicklaus II, Jerry Haas, and Bill Haas, the newest participant in
this year’s Classic who turned pro this year.
The
pros are stationed at assigned holes and are responsible for
hitting a drive for each team.
The team then decides whether or not to use that shot or
one from a player on their team.
According to Linda Cody, Director of Public Relations,
Jameson Health System, “Jameson is proud to host a premier golf
event like the Jameson Classic. Having the golf pros participate
adds a very positive element to the Classic.” She continues,
“The main reason everyone comes to the event is to have a great
day of golf on a beautiful course and contribute to worthwhile
causes that benefit our community.”
The event, sponsored by
the Jameson Health Care Foundation, the fundraising branch of
Jameson Health System, has set a goal of raising $100,000 towards
The Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) and Cardiac Care. The CAC is a child-focused
organization in which local professionals work together to address
the investigation, prosecution, and treatment of child abuse cases
in order to prevent further victimization of children and provide
programs on their behalf. The
Jameson Cardiac Program is designed specifically to help fight
heart disease in the community.
The program offers complete cardiac diagnostic,
interventional, rehabilitation and prevention services.
Thomas
White, President/CEO of the Jameson Health System, welcomed and
thanked the golfers and Kurt Beck, New Castle Country Club Golf
Pro, was on hand to advise the golfers of the rules for the day
before they headed into the rain.
The
first-place overall winning team with a low net score was from
Amelie Construction with team players Anne Brenneman, Michael
Campbell, Julian Proctor and Danielle Proctor.
The first-place team with the gross low score was from
ComDoc with team players Joseph Ambrosini, Allan Joseph, Gordy
Opitz and Len Rich. The
second place winners were from GEM Building Contractors
Developers, Inc. with team members Terry Bailey, Bob Jackson, Gale
Measel and Bob Preston. The
third place winners were from Medical Arts Center Pharmacy with
team members Mike Blundo, Ralph Blundo, Mike Memo and Ron Patrick.
Along with the team competition, skill prizes were given to
great shots ranging from longest drive off the tee to longest
putt. Winners in this
category were closest to the pin on #2, Bob Wagner; on #7 Anthony
Elisco; #13 Danielle Proctor and #17 Michelle Perelman.
Longest putt on #7 went to Don Dewey.
Longest Drive for men on #18 was Ralph Litrenta and Longest
Drive for women on #18 was Terry Gibson.
The longest putt on #13 was Bob Preston.
The
helicopter ball drop contest, sponsored by Stat Medevac, went to
Bob Baxter who won $1500 in
Pro Shop merchandise. Gary
Martin won the raffle and took home the Titleist set of irons and
golf bag. No one was able to make that one perfect shot to win the 2004
Buick Rainier sponsored by North City Motors and a Rolex Watch
sponsored by Gilbert’s Consulting.
The
format for the event is a 4-person scramble with a shotgun start
at 11:00 a.m. A total
of 132 golfers participated in the outing. Snacks and drinks were
placed in areas of the course to keep the golfers nutritionally up
to par. A little damp
from the weather and the golf competition, golfers returned to the
Country Club to enjoy a delicious dinner and awards presentation
at 5:30 p.m.
This
year’s Corporate Sponsors are GEM Building Contractors
Developers Inc., Medical Arts Center Pharmacy, and Siemens Medical
Systems. Major
sponsors for the event include Deloitte & Touche, Dr. Suresh
Amina, Dr. Anthony Elisco III, Dr. William Pommersheim, Primus
Medical and Sky Bank/Sky Trust. Jameson
would like to thank this year’s corporate sponsors, the more
than 52 business and individual sponsors, the donors and the
Classic Committee members for all their dedicated time and
support. Additionally,
a special thank-you is extended to the over 45 volunteers who work
very hard to make the Jameson Classic a successful event.
