Clem
Crisci 2004 20th Memorial Golf Tournament
New
Castle, PA – This year marks the 20th Annual Clem
Crisci Memorial Golf Tournament to be held on Monday, August 23,
2004, at the New Castle Country Club.
Since 1985, close friends and family have hosted a
tournament in memory of the late Clem Crisci who was killed in an
automobile accident while returning from a day of golf.
There were two people that stopped at the accident site to
help Clem; one was a student nurse and the other a milk tanker
driver.
The
Crisci family was in the dairy related and plastic packaging
business for over three generations.
Close friends of Clem had decided to establish an annual
golf tournament in memory of Clem.
The proceeds were to go into a memorial scholarship fund
for students in the nursing and dairy science fields.
“Anyone who knew Clem knows he had a big heart for the
underdog, so in his memory over $500,000 has been raised for
scholarships and grants. Eligibility
includes but is not limited to nursing students with a C+ or
better, acceptable character, and with demonstrated financial
need,” said Robert E. Crisci, Clem’s brother.
A scholarship committee was established to review the many
applications received each year.
This committee has many heart-warming stories and works
very hard. Marlene
Crisci Phillips, committee chairperson, wishes we could give more.
“It is very difficult to select a few, when there are so
many that deserve these scholarships and grants,” said Marlene
Crisci Phillips. The
Crisci Memorial Foundation awarded $17,000 for scholarships and
grants for 2004. The
scholarships are offered for two and four year programs.
The
Crisci Memorial Scholarship Fund has formed a Strategic Alliance
with the Lawrence County Community Fund and Jameson Memorial
Hospital School of Nursing. According
to Robert, “We are aware of the need for good nurses to be
trained and retained within the Jameson Memorial Hospital Health
System. With the
merging of both hospitals in New Castle, our hope is the
scholarships and grants will help to retain our nurses trained by
Jameson in New Castle.”
The
event features a $4,000 prize purse to include skill prizes for
longest putt, longest drive, closest to pin on first shot and
closet to pin on third shot.
The Clem Crisci Memorial is the only tournament that offers
FOUR chances to win a brand new car with the first hole-in-one on
designated par 3’s. This
year automobiles are offered by Bobby Rahal Mercedes, North City
Motors, Preston Auto Group and Phil Fitts Ford Lincoln Mercury.
The format for the event is a 5-person scramble with a
shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. There
will be a buffet luncheon beginning at 11 a.m., with a cocktail
party to be held following the event at 6:30 p.m. at the New
Castle Country Club.
