Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Graduation

New Castle , PA June 2, 2008 Forty students received diplomas from the Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing at commencement exercises held in Orr Auditorium, Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania on May 23, 2008 .

Mr. Douglas Danko, chief operating officer of Jameson Health System, Mr. Lee Silverman, chairman of the board of directors of Jameson Memorial Hospital ; and Dr. David Shober, president, medical/dental staff, congratulated the class for successfully meeting the requirements for graduation.  

Mr. Thomas White, president/CEO of Jameson Health System, gave the keynote address to the graduates. He spoke to the graduates regarding their commitment to the profession of nursing and the many opportunities that now lie ahead of them.

Mrs. Jayne Sheehan, director of professional and allied health education, presented the class.  Diplomas were presented by Mr. Silverman.  Ms. Barbara Bernardi, nurse executive, Jameson Health System, presented the graduates with their pins and Mrs. Diane Rice, student council advisor, conducted the candle lighting ceremony. 

The following students received awards:

Krista Haynie – Julie Wojtowicz Award -- given to the graduate who has exhibited determination, perseverance, dedication and compassion in surmounting financial, physical, social or other adversities of life.

Elizabeth Ayres - Lawrence County Medical Society Award, for outstanding ethical conduct.

Joyce Stizza – Lawrence M. Strauss Memorial Award, for excellence in the nursing of children.

Holly Wigley – Leo and Mitzi Robinson Memorial Award, for exceptional ability in meeting the psychosocial needs of the elderly in the community.

Elizabeth Ayres – St. Francis Hospital of New Castle School of Nursing Alumni Award, for clinical excellence throughout the program of study.

Renee Hausser - Elsevier Science Award, awarded to a graduating senior who, in the opinion of the faculty, has demonstrated excellence in the practice of medical-surgical nursing.

Joyce Stizza – Jameson-Shenango Alumni Award, for the best all-around nurse as chosen by the graduating class.

Sheri Babcock - Mary Ruth Heasley Memorial Award, presented to the graduate who demonstrates excellence in the practice of nursing care of children.

Liberty King – Travis A. French Award, for exceptional ability and understanding in the care of the childbearing family.

Amy Speis and Joyce Stizza – Rene D. Jenkins Memorial Award, for outstanding contribution to the School of Nursing .

Elizabeth Ayres – Spirit of Nursing Award, awarded by the School of Nursing faculty to the graduate who best embodies the spirit of nursing.

Liberty King and Arielle Brice - Mark L. Rosenblum Student Nurse Scholarship Award, awarded to the graduate who has consistently demonstrated a high level of scholastic achievement.

The Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing was established in 1895 with its first graduation ceremony observed in 1898.
