Jameson Offers Cancer Education
Programs
March 25, 2009
– The Pennsylvania
Department of Health recently announced the Pennsylvania Cancer
Education (Network), a new cancer control initiative in the
Commonwealth, which aims to help reduce the number of cancer cases
and deaths in Pennsylvania. The
Network, under the direction of the Pennsylvania Department of
Health, is designed to educate the public about colorectal,
prostate, ovarian and skin cancers.
These four cancers combined account for almost 30% of the
cancer burden in the state, which is why the Department of Health
has undertaken this extraordinary initiative.
As part of this initiative, Jameson Health System partnered with
Fox
Chase
Cancer
Center
in
Philadelphia
to be able to provide education sessions focused on the importance
of cancer prevention and early detection for these four types of
cancer. The 30-minute
presentations provide information about risk factors, symptoms,
methods of screening and treatment.
The Jameson Community & Staff Education Department provides
this education free of charge to employees and the community in
the Lawrence, Mercer,
Butler
and Beaver counties.
Flexible scheduling of day and evening hours is
available to meet the needs of local businesses, groups and
organizations.
