Jameson Friends of Hospice Dedicate Room

New Castle , PA March 26, 2009 - On March 11th, Jameson Friends of Hospice dedicated room 305 at Jameson’s North Campus to hospice patients and their families in order to provide a comfortable, private atmosphere as loved ones gather close to the terminally ill during their final days.

The suite is tastefully decorated in a home-like theme, yet offers state of the art medical equipment and services.  The suite features comfortable, overnight sleeping arrangements with a private bathroom and shower area for family and the added convenience of a television and refrigerator.  Skilled and palliative care nursing services are provided by staff for patients facing a life-limiting illness in need of acute hospitalization for symptom management or for supportive respite care.

Jameson Friends of Hospice are volunteers dedicated to raising money to assist in the care of hospice patients. Due to their unique understanding and dedication to hospice care, the organization wanted to provide a “hospice room” at the North Campus.  Since the Three South West Nursing Unit is designated as an oncology and medical-surgical unit, room 305 was chosen.  This project is not a new endeavor for this unique group of volunteers.  A hospice room and family room was dedicated at Jameson’s South Campus when the Transitional Care Unit was located there.

“This project reflects what this compassionate group of volunteers can do and have provided for others in our community,” said Doug Danko, president & CEO of Jameson Health System. “Jameson is pleased and overwhelmed by the willingness of the Jameson Friends of Hospice to provide this beautiful area for those who are dealing with end of life matters.”

Hospice is personalized treatment of the terminally-ill patient by a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals and lay volunteers so that death comes with dignity in a family setting, and where the family also receives supportive care during and after the death of the loved one.
