November
13, 2009
- On Friday, November
13th, Jameson Place Personal Care Facility located at
3345 Wilmington Road
held dedication services for an 11-foot welded steel sculpture
donated by
New Castle
’s Youth Development Center (YDC) and Erie Arts through the Arts
in Education Partnership of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
The sculpture, entitled “Rooster
I with Mobiles,” was designed by 20-year old Yosuf Sanders
of Philadelphia while a resident at YDC.
Pittsburgh
artist Allyson Holtz assisted with the program developed by YDC
Manager, Bernadette Bobosky.
Materials and fabrication were donated by
Castriota Metals and Recycling of McKees Rocks and paint was
provided by Sherwin Williams Company. Transportation of the art
work was provided by T.A. Robinson of
Bridgeville
,
PA
, and Bobosky Concrete from Pulaski donated the materials and laid
the concrete slab for the sculpture to be displayed in front of
Jameson Place
.
The YDC Art Program and its focus on the
creation of public works of art were built around the concept of
Restorative Justice. Restorative Justice addresses the harms
caused by crime and encourages young offenders to make gestures of
apology and generosity to the community.
The sculpture will be dedicated to
“Youth” so they may see there are positive choices to be made,
people who care, and never lose “hope” in what they can
accomplish.
