Jameson Work Health Presents Program Drug Abuse
in the Workplace
New Castle, PA –
Mrs. Elaine Surma from the Office of the Attorney General was the
guest speaker at the Jameson Work Health Annual Business Program.
Approximately forty area business professionals attended a
breakfast program, “Drug Abuse in the Workplace” on Thursday,
October 28, 2004, at 7:30 a.m.
“Meth, crystal, ice,
crack or speed are just a few of the street names for
methamphetamine,” said Agent Surma. She went on to say that methamphetamine is a highly addictive
drug that is abused because it initially produces a euphoric high
and users can also achieve massive weight loss.
She discussed the fine points of recognizing the symptoms
of drug abusers in the work place and the health risks associated
with drug users. A
question and answer period followed.
Elaine
Surma began her law enforcement career 27 years ago as a Special
Agent for the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in the Pennsylvania
Department of Justice. Presently
working out of the Erie office, she is in the Drug Demand
Reduction Unit in the capacity of Senior Supervisory Narcotic
Agent.
