This
information is intended to familiarize students and
prospective students with the major sources of financial
aid available.
It is the
responsibility of the student to meet their educational
expenses. Therefore,
it is necessary for you and your family to discuss your
own budget and resources and to plan for your education.
A student who
does not file for financial aid is deciding that he or she
needs no financial assistance to pay for their education.
We strongly recommend that all students apply for
financial aid. If personal questions are asked, it is only to
obtain a clear picture of your financial aid situation and
assist you in the financial aid process.
Eligibility for federal and state student aid is
determined on the basis of financial need and on several
other factors. The
financial aid administrator will determine what aid you
may be
eligible for based on your cost of attendance.
THE
FIRST STEP IN APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID
Students who wish to apply to
financial aid (grants and/or loans) are required to
complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The information provided on this application will be
used to determine eligibility for grants/loans. The
FAFSA must be completed annually. The filing date is
after January 1 and before May 1 of the academic year
the student is enrolled for. The FAFSA application may
be completed via the Internet at
http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. Sign your FAFSA with a Federal Student
Aid PIN (Personal Identification Number). If you do not have a PIN, you can apply for
one at
www.pin.ed.gov. Your PIN
allows you to electronically sign when you submit your
FAFSA. If you are providing parent information, one
parent must also sign your FAFSA. To sign
electronically, your parent should also apply for a
PIN. If you do not want to sign electronically,
there is a an option to mail in the signature
page. This may be done by printing the pages,
sign, and mail to the federal processor. Dependent
students must also have a parent signature. A paper FAFSA application is available by request;
the telephone number is 1-800-4-FED-AID
(1-800-433-3243).
